6 weeks to go

It is now 6 weeks to go. All the bookings have been made and the final payments have been sent and recieved. Basically we started planning early and as a result got earlybird specials totalling about $1000 nzd each less than normal prices.

We leave on the 23 September 2005 from Auckland, New Zealand by Thai Ariways. From here we go to Rome arriving at 6am. We collect our Peugeot Euro Lease rental car from Fumicino Airport and have the remainder of the day to arrive at our Casa.

La Casa is called il Morro and is over looking Cortona. here is the url http://www.sancrispolto.it/uk/propertyfriends.html
We did all the arrangments over the internet through a really nice couple called Marco and Maria Rita, they are also 'Romantic Italian Weddings' and helped organise our wedding arrangments. We paid for the Elopment package. here is the url http://www.romanticitalianweddings.com
If anyone wants more information on services that we used, just ask I am more than happy to help.

Spending 3 weeks in one location and driving around at our leasure should resul in a wonderful "slow travel" holiday. A relaxing one for my partner and yet we still have time to see wonderful sights and experience the Tuscan / Umbrian culture.

We then head to Thailand for 3 days/2 nights to see our new grandchild for the first time and by then my step son. The stop over is free because we chose Thai Airways and the Rome to Auckland flight has a refueling stop there anyway. Through the airline we go very cheep hotel accommodation as a flight stopover deal.

The Wedding is set to go as well.
My dress will be finsihed any day now and the rest of our outfits are bought, the hairdresser is booked, the music is picked and mucician is practising hard I hope, and the paperwork is completed. The NZ side of the paperwork took 6 mths, far too long. It should have only taken 3 months at the outside but the italian paperwork only took about 3 weeks when we expected up to 6 weeks and with beucratic delays.

Once home we have the task of tell our friends and family. To achieve this in the lease ceremonious way we decided to have an "Open Home" the weekend we returned. this is about 3 days after we are back and my friend Sandra (one of the few who know what we are goign to do) very kindly volunteered to send out Open Home invitations while we were away.

The invistations are a subtle telling of our marriage and invite all to come over during the weekend to hear all about our trip and wedding.

Plans

I thought that I would start a blog to function as a diary but also to for friends and family to be part.
The wedding in Italy began as holiday plans (or maybe a honeymoon). Then we began talking about "our wedding" things began to get complicated as we wanted a small and quite wedding but without offending friends and family that maybe uninvited or not included. It seemed a natural progression to get married while we were in Italy and tell everyone once we were home.

I have loved Italy since I was on a 5 week trip a few years ago. It was very busy and by the end things seemed a blurr. My partner has never been to Italy and does not relish the thought of crowds and cues.

Once agreed that eloping to Italy was a possibility may hours of web surfing began. I found a really nice couple who help organise weddings, accommodation, and any els that may be needed.
